The Magic Window Cleaning Solution

Washing Windows

The rut is almost on. One more weekend to get those projects done around the house and tidy up before winter storms in. One of the last things we like to do is wash our windows and clean window screens. Even if you’ve replaced windows recently, they still need to be cleaned seasonally to maximize your winter viewing and light infiltration throughout the low light months.

We found a great recipe for a homemade window cleaning concoction at The Frugal Girls blog. Here’s how it’s made:

  • 1 cup Water
  • ¼ cup White Vinegar
  • 2 to 3 drops of Dawn Dish Soap
  • Mix together in an empty spray bottle and start cleaning.

Cleaning Window Screens

Dust or pollen can accumulate on window screens throughout the year. It’s good practice to clean those screens to remove the grime and give you a clearer view. Here’s what we recommend:

  • Remove screens from windows
  • Spray dry screens with a product like Endust and let dry
  • Spray screens with a shower spray from a garden hose
  • Wipe off frames
  • Replace screens in correct windows

One tip for making sure you get the right screen with the right window is using a magic marker to make a small number in the screen track on the window frame with a matching number on the screen frame in a concealed location.

Of course, if you’re tired of dealing with leaky storm windows with 4 panes of glass, we’d love a chance to introduce you to our Infinity from Marvin Windows. They are designed for safe and easy tilt-in cleaning. If you act today to get a replacement project going, you’ll be able to enjoy the fresh, clean look of your new windows all winter!
